The Monte Cucco Park

Mount Cucco (1,566 mts asl) is one of the highest mountains in Umbria. Its territory is included in the municipalities of Fossato di Vico, Costacciaro, Scheggia and Pascelupo, and Sigillo.<\/p>\n

Monte Cucco Park is a protected natural area established by the Umbria region in 1995.
\nWith its 100 kms of numerous trails, it is the ideal place for those who love nature.<\/p>\n

Monte Cucco beech woods – called “beech trees” – along with those of the nearby Catria mountain are among the most extensive, developed and integral of the entire Umbrian-Marche Apennine.<\/p>\n

The beech tree (Fagus sylvatica) therefore represents the dominant tree in the Mount Cucco above 800\/1000 mts of altitude, especially in the cooler valleys.
\nBelow a certain section, of drier and sunny slopes, beech is conspicuous with other tree species such as Quercus cerris, Ostrya carpinifolia and Fraxinus excelsior, and then it becomes patchy. Its formations thus become noticeable especially in autumn, when the branches begin to shine, creating a landscape with incredibly beautiful shades.<\/p>\n

Among the most interesting trails:
\nPath No. 4 is nearby a canyon dug out of the Rio Freddo by a stream that rises from the top of Mount Cucco, Pian delle Macinare, generating “jumps” of several meters between the rocks. Magnificent is the naturalistic view. <\/p>\n

This path offer the opportunity to practice canyoning ….. a unique experience in an incredibly beautiful setting.
\nThe tour must be booked and made with expert guides who will also provide you with the necessary equipment. <\/p>\n
